Medical and Dental Council (MDC) Registration Mandate

The Medical and Dental Council (MDC) is the statutory agency under the Ministry of Health, established under Part II of the Health Professions Regulatory Bodies Act, 2013 (Act 857). Its main object is to secure in the public interest the highest standards in the training and practice of medicine and dentistry for the public good.

In accordance with Section 27 of Act 857, the Council is mandated to compile and keep registers of practitioners who have attained and/or maintained the minimum competencies required to practise safely in Ghana.

Categories of Registers (Section 32 of Act 857)

Category 1

Provisional Register

This register is typically for newly qualified practitioners undergoing their housemanship or supervised practice.

Temporary Register

This register is generally for foreign-trained practitioners or those engaged for a specific period or purpose.

Permanent Register

This register is for practitioners who have met all requirements, including the successful completion of supervised practice, and are fully licensed to practice.

License Restoration

Application for Restoration of Name in the Register

If your name has been removed from the Medical and Dental Council register, you may apply for restoration. This process allows practitioners who have been struck off or have voluntarily removed their names to be reinstated to the register upon meeting specific requirements.

The restoration process ensures that practitioners meet current standards and maintain the professional competencies required for safe practice in Ghana.

Statutory Declaration stating reasons

Current CV

Current Passport Size Picture

Certificate of Good Standing (where applicable)

Letters of Reference from the institution in which the practitioner was working or studying

CPDs attended during the preceding 24 months

Administrative Cost of $759.00 (cedi equivalent)

Completed form

Important Notes

  • All documents must be certified copies unless otherwise stated
  • Passport photograph must be recent (taken within the last 6 months)
  • CPD documentation must cover the full 24-month period preceding application
  • Administrative cost is subject to change; confirm current amount before payment
  • Payment must be made into the MDC Ecobank account - cash payments not accepted
